QSSIS ANNUAL CHRISTMAS FAMILY DINNER
Spending the early years of his life in an orphanage, Harry Kioussis knows what it is like to spend Christmas alone. Growing up in WWII in Greece was not any easier. Food was not in abundance and Mr. Kioussis had no one to really depend upon, but himself. In the mid-1950s, Harry immigrated to Canada, "the land of opportunity" and vowed to one day repay Canada; in whatever way he can, as a thank you to the country for allowing him to become a Canadian citizen. Thus, the Qssis Christmas Family Dinner was born, and although Harry Kioussis is no longer playing an active role in the day to day running of the operation due to his health, his two sons; John and Jeff continue the tradition instilled upon them.
Every year at Christmas time, Qssis Banquet Halls opens up it's doors and provides a FREE hot Christmas dinner to the needy of Toronto. Various organizations, churches and old age homes are contacted throughout the months of September and October as to how many "tickets" they may require. From there, a guest list is compiled and over the course of these two days, Qssis, it's many volunteers and helpful members of parliament stage a wonderful afternoon that even includes Santa Claus and toys for the kids. We estimate to serve about 3,500 people over these 2 days.
